What you'll learn
Welcome to Assessment for Learning course. This course provides a great opportunity to reflect and build on what you already know.
In this course, you will get to grips with what assessment for learning is and why it matters. You will also consider how it is different to assessment of learning. As we progress, you will have an introduction to the five components of assessment for learning that are identified by Dylan Wiliam, an expert in assessment for learning. This will provide a firm foundation for the rest of course.
Course content
This course is separated into five modules of learning:
Module One
Here we look at what is Assessment for Learning. We reflect on what you may already know, share terminology and focus on how it might differ from assessment of learning.
Module Two
Now we start to look at sharing learning intentions or outcomes and identifying learning criteria. We link these to Dylan Williams five strategies. We also consider the pitfalls you should try to avoid.
Module Three
Helen focuses on effective questions and links them to supporting Assessment for Learning. The use of effective questions should not be underestimated, Dylan Williams refers to how they can be used to check understanding and promote thinking with your students or learners.
Module Four
Helen shares about the concept of activating learners. She unpacks what this means and it's importance.
