Protecting personal data is a legal requirement and a vital part of keeping pupils, staff and organisations safe. This workshop introduces the key principles of UK GDPR and data protection, equipping you with the knowledge to apply them confidently in an education setting.

Across four modules, you will:
- Learn the core concepts of GDPR and the six data protection principles.
- Understand how to keep data secure and how to respond in the event of a breach.
- Explore data protection rights, including subject access requests, and what can and cannot be disclosed.
- Gain clarity on the rules around consent and when it is required in schools.
By the end of the course, you’ll be able to identify and apply data protection requirements, respond appropriately to breaches or requests, and ensure compliance with GDPR.
Course content
This course is separated into four modules of learning:
Module One: Key Concepts
This module covers the importance of data protection, key concepts and the six data protection principles.
Module Two: Data Security
This module covers data protection principles requiring organisations to keep data safe and secure, personal data breaches and what to do if there is a personal data breach at your organisation.
Module Three: Data Protection Rights
This module covers the rights introduced with GDPR and those most commonly found in a school setting and what to do when you receive a data protection request.
Module Four: Consent
This module covers the issue of consent, what consent means and when it is required in a school setting.
