Aligning Tuition to the School's Needs

It’s really important that you are clear on who you should report to in school before commencing your tuition block. There may be many different colleagues who can help answer your questions or support you on a day to day basis, but you need to be clear on who the decision maker is and who has the overall say on what you should and should not do.

This may seem like an obvious question, but it’s important that you know which pupils the school has allocated to you in advance of the sessions starting.

For the purposes of safeguarding and accurate record keeping, your school will need you to keep a record of which pupils do and do not attend your sessions. Asking how they want you to do this in advance will avoid the need to seek clarification on your first day. 

One of the challenges you may be faced with when commencing your tuition block is understanding the data that the school have gathered on each pupil and how it should be interpreted.

Incidents of poor or low-level disruptive behaviour can be eradicated through precise and meaningful praise issued through the correct channels.

You will need to be aware of and plan your tuition sessions in line with the school’s timetable and length of sessions.

Understanding what your allocated tutoring space looks like and the resources that are available to you in advance of your block commencing will allow you to plan efficiently and make sure your first session runs without a hitch!
